ERIE, PA

There is something visually remarkable about how a few strung telephone wires across a street have a music, a symphonic quality all their own... visually and musically, too...

This is a shot from a part of Erie that just kept on going... it looked like this for miles and miles... a facinating jump from the present to a 1950's movie shot... right out of The Thing... or a shot from a 50's trailer for a subject I can't even imagine... these people don't squeeze a few grapefruits in the morning or use sweet n' low...

Here's a slice of real america that I just can't get enough of, the subtle film noir of everyday existence the program left out.

LEAVING ITHACA

Coming out of the finger lakes area I head to Pittsburgh for a Saturday show at the Quiet Storm...

And I realized as I was driving south, listening to John Mayall's Room to Move, with a truck full of guitars and cables, CD's and a few sleeping bags, that this was a gift...a very unique opportunity to see the southern rim of the great lakes, play some cool rooms and be exposed to so much new material for notes, songs, stories and raw, magnificent, urban decay...

The sense of freedom and creativity was real enough to taste... and the music sort of writes itself at that stage...
