MY ASPHALT

...ok, it's saturday and I am pretty rested... the great things about motels are that whatever happens, it won't matter because in the end, you just leave... this place is a motel footprint in a huge sea of asphalt by the side of rt. 845 into richmond... the familiar icons are around so I do my routine - to the QuickStop for 3 bottles of gatorade, to the grocery for 2 big vanila fat free yogurt tubs and a bag of granola cereal and a box of raisins... this will last for three days and I will lose around 5 lbs and feel great... I take another walk around the motel layout - andsee a dollar store in the corner of this big asphalt island... nothing like a dollar store when you are in need of the little things so I walk over and spend a few minutes

MOTEL CHIC...

loading up on road gear - a few bungie cords, a plastic bin, a really cool receipt holder and a bag of cheese curls... I am addicted to cheese curls and I know all the brands and the flavor variations of each... then it's back to the room, and by this time my asphalt kingdom is completely devoid of cars, people, dogs and anything with a pulse, so I head in, layout the food, re-string guitars and spend the next few hours writing a few songs, eatin' cheese curls.. and bein' in my small version of rock heaven, on the road, playing music, guitars everywhere, in a warm room miles from any where and a lifetime from the day job... this is a gift and I need to make the most of it every moment... now's the time to rack and pack and get ready for the show...
