ACOUSTIC CAFE

It's a visual drive going across wisconsin from the milwaukee world and i am in eau claire pretty quickly and I roll in around 5pm and start to set up... I have played this room a few times and it is so cool and fun and so big and and open....

I am set up and ready to go by 8pm, sound checked, racked and loaded... and the place is pretty empty, but at around 8:20, on cue, it suddenly fills up - and it gets packed in a few minutes and when I start it is a full house - more people than all the times I have been there before... a really nice crowd in a very cool room in eau claire wisconsin... so far from the insanity of the east coast that everything looks like it is moving in slow motion and you can see what's coming before it gets there... and you are waiting for everything to speed back up to 24 fps...

EAU CLAIRE

...it started raining that afternoon and it has only gotten worse... so when I finish up and rack and pack, eau claire is a ghost town but the street lights reflected in the wet road are always a warm sight, an image I know so very well that it's at once comforting and familiar... it ties in every place I have ever been, all the rooms, all the trips, all the late night shows, all the rainy days and nights because it's universal; in a way, that reflection is related to the one in omaha, related to one in savannah which is the same as the one at e13th and 3rd in the east village... a soggy universal thread... but I find the mousetrap a few blocks up and duck in to see a great local act max allen with a killer drummer - a guy named bennett... and then I head south to winona around 4am...
